A 48-year-old man is dead after his motorized bicycle was struck by a 17-year-old driver in Carefree, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said.
Darrin Conrad was riding his bike south on Cave Creek Road near New River Road when he was struck by a Subaru driven by the teenager, who had been trying to negotiate a turn.
Conrad received a life-threatening head injury and was flown to John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital about 6 p.m. where he was later pronounced dead.
The 17-year-old driver was not injured. The Sheriff’s Office investigation is ongoing.
