Three sixteen-year-old boys of San Jose California were recently arrested for the sexual battery of fifteen-year-old Audrie Pott. According to Police, the boys allegedly sexually assaulted Ms. Pott after she passed out at a party. The teenagers, according to Police, then posted cell phone pictures of the attack online.
Eight days after the attack, according to Police, Ms. Pott hung herself after posting “worst day ever” on the popular media site, Facebook.
On Thursday, seven months after their daughter passed away, the Northern California Sherriff’s Office notified Ms. Pott’s family that arrests had been made in her case.
According to Lieutenant Jose Cardoza of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, Officers arrested two Saratoga High School teenagers. The third teenager, according to Lieutenant Cardoza, was a student at Christopher High School.
Lieutenant Cardoza said that the suspects, whose names have not been released because they are minors, were each charged with two felonies and one misdemeanor and were booked into juvenile hall.
The attorney for Ms. Pott’s family said, “The family has been trying to understand why their loving daughter would have taken her life at such a young age and to make sure that those responsible would be held accountable.”
In Arizona, in the year 2000, 1214 juveniles were arrested for “felonies against person” the definition of which includes charges such as aggravated assault, sexual abuse, sexual assault and sexual conduct with a minor.” Of the total juveniles arrested in Arizona in 2000, 9903 of them were male and 3151 of them were sixteen-years-old.
