Young men with receding hairlines sought out the promise of hair growth as they sought Propecia medication from their physicians. Never did these young virile men consider that this new hair growth would cost a hefty price-permanent erectile dysfunction and impotency. Merck & Co., the manufacture of Propecia failed to warn that the side effects of erectile dysfunction, failure to achieve orgasm, and impotency might be permanent.

Men who are victims of Propecia sexual side effects may have legal recourse to seek compensation for their injuries. Lawsuit filings have increased contending that Propecia, a medication used by young men for the treatment of male patterned baldness caused permanent sexual problems.  In April 2012, the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation consolidated all federal filed Propecia lawsuits throughout the United States (MDL Docket No. 2331) for pretrial management.

Merck & Co. allegedly indicated that Propecia sexual side effects, including erectile dysfunction and impotence, were only temporary. Recent research suggests that these problems may be permanent, even after men discontinued use of Propecia.

These regrettable sexual side effects of the drug were a known issue and the manufacturer included a misleading warning about them on the drug label. The warning said that the side effects stopped when use of Propecia stopped. The Journal of Sexual Medicine and George Washington University recently reported that sexual problems can continue after men stop taking the drug. In the George Washington University study, 96 percent of men said their side effects lasted for over a year. For some, they have never gone away.

In addition to impotence, users have reported shrinking genitals, low libido and ejaculatory problems. Now plaintiffs are lining up to sue Merck, the manufacturer, for failing to include adequate warnings on its label. Young men trying to start a family are devastated.
