Propecia, a medication prescribed for treating male patterned baldness, may cause irreversible sexual side effects and impotency. Claims that these serious side effects of sexual dysfunction continued following the cessation of the medication have prompted a flurry of lawsuit filings against Merck & Co., the manufacturer of Propecia.
The Food and Drug Administration recently updated the warning label for Propecia, warning that the side effects of impotence, low libido, and difficulties achieving ejaculation and orgasm may continue after use of the medication has stopped. A recent medical study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine confirms that sexual dysfunction may persist for months or years after patients stop taking Propecia.
The study included 54 men who experienced sexual problems at least three months after stopping Propecia. The researchers found that 89 percent of them had sexual problems severe enough to be considered to have sexual dysfunction. Dr. Michael Irwig of George Washington University, the author of the study, reported that the men interviewed in the study reported problems which included erectile dysfunction, low libido, difficulty achieving an orgasm, and shrunken and painful genitals. Irwig questioned whether the medication had caused permanent damage to these men.
As evidence of Propecia’s long-term health threats continues to mount, more men are coming forward to assert claims against Merck & Co. for its failure to warn users of Propecia of the serious and potentially irreversible side effects of erectile and sexual dysfunction. This pharmaceutical giant should take responsibility and fairly compensate men harmed by this dangerous medication.
