On Thursday, January 19th, police arrested 45 year-old Michael Edmund Madrid for molesting two girls. He was booked at Maricopa County Jail on 7 counts of child molestation and 3 counts of sexual abuse.
The alleged victims were 9 and 11 years old when the abuse began in 2005. The abuse continued for about a year until the older child reported it to an adult.
According to the report, Madrid molested the girls because “it was easy,” and that other sexual outlets did not “offer the kind of excitement he craved.” A court document showed that Madrid did not consider the girls to be “whole people.”
Madrid is currently facing criminal charges and may face civil charges in the future. Sexual abuse can have devastating and long-lasting effects on the victims, which may require long-term mental health treatment and medication.
In Arizona, you must file your personal injury claim within two years of being injured or discovering that you have been injured. There is, however, special consideration for children. The law in Arizona states that, if you are injured when you are a minor (under 18), you have two years from your 18th birthday to bring a personal injury claim. If Madrid’s victims wish to bring civil charges against him, have until their 20th birthdays to do so.
