Phoenix Police Need Help to Identify Man Killed by Car on New Year’s Eve
The Phoenix Police Department has requested the public’s help to identify a pedestrian who was killed on New Year’s Eve when he was struck by a car. The incident occurred at about 7:30 pm near Southern Avenue and 17th Avenue. The police reported that the driver did not appear to be impaired by drugs or alcohol.
The police described the man as being between 40 and 50 years old. They did not provide any information about the man’s size, race, or clothing. The Phoenix Police ask that anyone who has information that could lead to this man’s identity, to call 602-262-6141.
If the man has family, they should know about the passing of their loved one. The family may also wish to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver if the driver is responsible for the accident. A wrongful death claim may be brought by the survivors of someone who has died due to another person’s negligence. If the man’s family sues for wrongful death, they will request the damages that the man would have been able to collect from the driver for negligence if he had survived the accident. Arizona Revised Statutes §§ 12-611 – 12-613 govern wrongful death lawsuits.
