Inmate Struck by Vehicle while Collecting Trash on Freeway

Forty-seven-year-old (47) Cary Allan, an inmate from the State prison in Marana, was struck by a car on Interstate 10 as he was picking up trash along the highway.  On Friday, at approximately 9 a.m., Mr. Allan was picking up trash along with other inmates on the shoulder of Interstate 10 when his trash bag flew into the westbound lanes of the highway near Tangerine Road.  According to Department of Public Safety Spokesman Bart Graves, Mr. Allan ran after the bag and was struck by a car; leaving him underneath a Department of Corrections vehicle.  According to Northwest Fire District Spokesman Captain Adam Goldberg, Mr. Allan suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to University Medical Center.  Mr. Allan is in prison on a twenty-seven (27) month sentence for credit-card theft.
