Doctor in Anthem Charged with Sexual Exploitation of a Minor

According to the Maricopa County Sherriff’s Office, on Wednesday, Dr. Lewis Underwood, a naturalistic doctor in the Anthem area, was charged with eleven (11) counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.  In December, Dr. Lewis was arrested for molesting the nine-year-old (9) son of his former employee.  According to the Sherriff’s Office, the nine-year-old (9) told his Mother that Dr. Lewis played a tickling game and played undressed while the boy was at the Doctor’s home.  Further, during its investigation, the Sherriff’s Office recovered over 88,000 images and 1500 child pornography videos from Dr. Lewis’ home computer.  In a press release, Sherriff Joe Arpaio said “There is a strong indication gleaned from the evidence that this Dr. Underwood may have victimized other children, so we are encouraging anyone with additional information to come forward.”

According to Arizona Revised Statute § 13-3553, “A person knowingly commits sexual exploitation of a minor by knowingly: (1) Recording, filming, photographing, developing or duplicating any visual depiction in which a minor is engaged in exploitive exhibition or other sexual conduct.”  Under Arizona law, sexual exploitation of a minor is a Class 2 Felony. Further, in Arizona, a person convicted of sexual exploitation of a minor under the age of fifteen (15) will face ten (10) to twenty-four (24) years in prison.
