Police Patrol the Valley as Part of the “Click It or Ticket” Campaign

On May 25th, Peoria, Glendale and Phoenix Police Departments will patrol along Deer Valley Road from 107th Avenue in Peoria to 56th Street in Phoenix as a part of the national “Click It or Ticket Campaign.” The effort, funded in part by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, is part of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety’s Campaign designed to increase seatbelt use throughout the State.  According to Officer Davies, car accidents are the leading cause of death and serious injury in Arizona, and seatbelts can reduce the rate of fatalities of passengers in the front seat by forty-five (45) percent and for passengers of SUVs, mini-vans and pickup trucks by sixty (60) percent.

Under Arizona law, Officers are not permitted to pull a person over for a secondary traffic violation such as not wearing a seatbelt.  However, according to Peoria Police Spokesman Jay Davies, Police will be looking for primary traffic violations such as speeding which will allow officers to also enforce seatbelt violations.
