On Sunday afternoon, two car accidents occurred on Interstate 17, one northbound and one southbound, within minutes of each other. According to an Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) spokesman, the southbound automobile accident was a single-vehicle rollover crash that occurred near Anthem Way. DPS said the driver, whose name has not been released, was traveling at a high rate of speed, and lost control of the vehicle causing the vehicle to clip the highway overpass, roll and then catch fire. When Daisy Mountain Fire Fighters arrived, the vehicle was already engulfed in flames, and the firefighters were unable to save the driver. The northbound car accident was also a rollover accident that occurred near the New River exit. No other information has been provided about this accident.
