Report released detailing Police Officer-involved shooting
A full report detailing the shooting death of Danny Frank Rodriguez was released by the Phoenix Police Department on November 24, 2010. The report was based on the testimony of the other officer at the scene of the shooting. Officer Sergio Virgillo was on patrol that day with Officer Richard Chrisman, when the two received a call about a domestic violence incident. They arrived on the scene, entered Rodriguez’s trailer, when Officer Chrisman reportedly put his gun to Rodriguez’s temple. After a brief altercation Chrisman used his pepper spray to subdue Rodriguez. It was at this point that Officer Virgillo left the trailer. Officer Chrisman then reportedly used his Taser to subdue Rodriguez, which had no effect. At some point during the altercation Chrisman fatally shot the Rodriguez family pit bull. Rodriguez then attempted to flee on his bicycle. After a brief struggle over the bike, Officer Chrisman shot Rodriguez twice in the chest. Officer Chrisman said in his report that Rodriguez attempted to grab his gun and also attempted to take Officer Chrisman’s gun. (However, Rodriguez was allegedly unarmed at the time of the incident.) Officer Chrisman has been charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault and animal cruelty.
